Coquitlam's parts
- Southwest Coquitlam: the neighbourhoods around Burquitlam and Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain stations and along Austin Avenue. In May 2026 Council adopted changes here that allow more medium-density housing and townhouses near transit, under the Province's housing laws.2
- City Centre: around Coquitlam Central, Lincoln and Lafarge Lake–Douglas stations, with Town Centre Park and its stadium, sports fields, trails and spray park.711
- Burke Mountain (northeast): the City calls it one of Coquitlam's fastest-growing neighbourhoods. Burke Mountain Athletic Park opened in September 2026, and the Burke Mountain Community Centre broke ground in May 2026.34

"Flat in a duplex" is the census term for one of two homes stacked one above the other, such as a house with a separate suite on another floor.5
Types to compare for a first home
- Apartment condo: 36.2% of Coquitlam homes are apartments, split between low-rise and high-rise buildings.1
- Townhouse: a row house joined side by side, with no home above or below.5 These are 9.8% of Coquitlam homes.1
- Half duplex: one of two houses joined side by side.5 These are 2.9% of Coquitlam homes.1
Most condos and many townhouses are strata properties: you own your unit, and together with the other owners you own the common property as a strata corporation.6

Getting around
SkyTrain
The Millennium Line has four stations in Coquitlam: Burquitlam, Coquitlam Central, Lincoln and Lafarge Lake–Douglas. Going west it runs through Lougheed Town Centre and Burnaby to VCC–Clark in Vancouver; going east it passes Moody Centre and Inlet Centre in Port Moody first.7
West Coast Express
Commuter trains stop at Coquitlam Central. They run to Waterfront in downtown Vancouver on weekday mornings and back toward Mission in the afternoon and evening.10
RapidBus and buses
- R3 Lougheed Hwy: Coquitlam Central Station to Haney Place in Maple Ridge.89
- 160: Port Coquitlam Station to Kootenay Loop in Vancouver.9
Parks and recreation centres
- Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way): sports fields, a running track, tennis courts, a playground, spray park, trails and fishing.11
- Mundy Park Pool: an outdoor pool that won a BC Recreation and Parks Association Facility Excellence Award in 2026.12
- Burke Mountain Athletic Park: a lit 400-metre track, an artificial turf field and four lit tennis courts.3
Recreation centres include the City Centre Aquatic Complex, Pinetree Community Centre, Poirier Community Centre, Maillardville Community Centre, Town Centre Park Community Centre, Summit Community Centre, Centennial Activity Centre and Smiling Creek Activity Centre.13

Public schools in Coquitlam are run by School District No. 43 (Coquitlam).14
